River Float

The Clark Fork River is one of the main highlights throughout the Canyon River Golf Course. With the river surrounding the community, there are several spots that you put in and take an afternoon float with the family. Grab your inner tube and your beverages. The best spot to put in if your home is not located on the water is right at the Sha-Run fishing access, just a walk from Canyon River’s entrance.


Walking Trails

Canyon River touts several different walking paths surrounding the golf course and housing community. With scenic Hellgate Canyon and golf course walks there are several trails that will connect you from Canyon River to East Missoula, the Rattlesnake and into Missoula. Looking for a trail map? KettleHouse Ampthitheater

Missoula’s newest concert amphitheater is located just a short 5 minute drive from your front door. With several summer concerts this venue backups to the Blackfoot River. Check out their summer concert series at: https://logjampresents.com/venue/kettlehouse-amphitheater/


Canyon River is surrounded by several great fishing holes. The Clark Fork River weaves on the outer edge of the community with a great raft drop in spot at Sha-run fishing access. This float will take you down to the downtown take out right by Ogren Park Baseball Stadium. If you would like to float the Blackfoot river, just 20 minutes east of Canyon River, you can put in at Johnsrud Park and there are several takeout options depending on how long you would like to fish. Downtown Missoula

Downtown Missoula is a short 5 minute drive West of Canyon River Community. With several restaurants including fine dining, bars or your local brew pub you won’t want to miss out on all downtown has to offer. Downtown boasts several entertainment venues from the Wilma, Top Hat, Caras Park, Missoula Children’s Theater and the Roxie Theater. Marshall Canyon Loop Trail is a 8.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail. With beautiful scenery and the multiple activity options located on the trail. The best time to check out this location is between March and October.

Kim Williams Nature Trail is a 9.8 mile trail that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. This trail has access year round.

Mt. Sentinel “M” trail is 3/4 mile to 'M' and 1 and 3/4 miles to top of Mount Sentinel. With 11 switchbacks and an elevation climb of 620 ft this trail is great for runners and walkers. Once you reach the “M” you will have a beautiful view of Missoula Valley. The best time to hike this trail is from March to October.

Mount Jumbo Trail is a 6 mile primarily used for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. This trail is for the more experienced outdoor enthusiast as it is one of the steeper trails. The best time to check out Mt. Jumbo is June until November.

Pattee Canyon

Pattee Canyon Recreational Area consists of 3,200 acres on the east side of Missoula. With 27 miles of trail, a folf course and cross country skiing available in the winter time. The Pattee Canyon trails connect you to several of Missoula most scenic spots, along with the University of Montana and the Clark Fork River areas. Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain Recreational Area offers 4,900-acre recreation area which includes 41 miles of system trails. Just south of Missoula, Blue Mountain has incredible views of the Missoula valley, and the Sapphire and Rattlesnake mountains. If you are a folfer, Blue Mountain also provides a beautiful 18 hole folf course with a little added “hike” in between. Montana Snowbowl is Missoula “place to be” when it comes to winter recreation for skiers and snowboarders. The bowl is host to four ski lifts and several groomed runs, along with a terrain park that is constantly evolving.
